In April 2016, within the commemoration of the Heroes of Kholodnyi Yar, the monument was installed at the crossroads of Khreschatyk Street and Sviatotroitska Street, near Hill of Glory. The monument has the form of a cone-shaped granite obelisk, the height of it is 15 meters. On the obelisk there is a forged oak-guelder-rose wreath with the inscription: “To the fighters for the freedom of Ukraine”.
At the foot there are 8 memorable blocks, in which the dates of different periods of struggle of the Ukrainians for independence are carved. In particular, the warriors for the freedom of Ukraine of the XXI century, OUN-UPA’s warriors, the Heroes of Kholodnyi Yar, Heroes of Nebesna sotnia (The Heaven’s Hundred Heroes—the people killed during Euromaidan events) and others.
A two-meter-long bronze sculpture of the Archangel Michael, a patron saint of the warriors, was installed on the top of the obelisk. The monument “To the fighters for the freedom of Ukraine” was designed by Cherkasy architect Yuriy Kalashnyk and a famous Ukrainian sculptor Mykola Bilyk.
