ABOUT THE LOCATION
The Lviv National University is a sample of Vienna’s Neo-Renaissance of 1877-1881. The buiding was constructed on a design of the architect Gohberger for the Seim (Parliament) of the Halychina. After the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the buildiing hosts The Lviv University. This monumental building in a pompous style of the early 19th century’s Vienna’s Neo-Renaissance is a sample of the stylish combination of architecture and sculpture. The main entrance is beautified by two big allegoric statues, named Education and Labour. If you look up, you will see the statuary, named Board of Halychina’s overseers, with statues of Halychina, Dnistro and Visla. If you look down, you will see statues that represent Love, Justice, Truth and Faith. The facade of the building is best viewed from the square in front of Ivan Franko Monument.
The front gala staircase, which is lit through the glass roof, is beautified with the Neo-Renaissance patterns of the famous sculptor Leonardo Marconi.
