ABOUT THE LOCATION
The building of the museum used to be the mansion of the famous zoologist and archaeologist Volodymyr Diduschytsky. As a boy, Vladimir watched his mother, who collected herbarium and had a collection of tropical mollusks. Eventually, he became to collect, too. His friends knew of his hobby and brought different exhibits for his collection from their travels, so his collections were growing at a crazy speed, and soon there was lack of room for the exhibits in the house on Lysenko Street. In 1868 Diduschytsky purchased a separate building to make of it a storage for his collection. At first, the collection could be seen once a week. But after Diduschytsky had gifted Lviv with his collection, Museum of Natural History appeared in the city. Besides, one of the Europe’s oldest mechanical elevators is located in this building, too. On the other side of the street you can see the building of The Economic Faculty of The Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
