The Cathedral

ABOUT THE LOCATION

On the wall of the Latin Cathedral, you can see an artillery ball hanging on the chain and an old sign behind telling that the ball flew into the window of the Cathedral in 1672 during the Turkish siege of Lviv. An incredible historical fact of that time: an army of 200,000 Turkish men, together with their allies, failed to overcome the resistance of only 1500 defenders of Lviv; the city did not surrender, and its enemies could not seize it. In general, from 1353 to 1704, for 352 years, citizens of Lviv stood about fifty hostile sieges and fended any invader to step on the pavement of their city—an unprecedented figure for most European cities.
